The first step

So the other night I decided it was time I organized my yarn. I have several bins of yarn, I'm sad to say, and it's all jumbled up based, primarily, on when I got it. So I pulled out all the bins to start organizing.
As I kept looking, I kept finding more bins of yarn. What the heck? I even have a couple boxes of yarn that was my mother's.

I decided the best way to go about sorting through the yarn was to dump it all out and make piles and then put it back away in the bins.

I dumped and dumped and dumped. This picture doesn't even show it all, as I found and dumped another bin after taking the pic. I didn't dump out the yarn from my mother, as it's old and smells funny, so I'll leave it to itself for now.
I sorted the yarn out and ended up with a pile of plastic bags and four bins of yarn: one with wool/wool blends, one with fingering weight and my "nice" yarn, one with "nice" acrylic, and the last with the crappy acrylic and random novelty yarn. So now I'm attempting what's known in the trade as a "stash-down". Because all the yarn is my stash, and I'm trying to stash bust to get rid of a goodly bit of it. I mean, I think I may have a problem, but admitting it is the first step to overcoming, right?
